Post Production

Post production:

Editing:

Editing was done on two different software, the irst draft was done on clipchamp but got rejected, but later on with some changes and re-shoots and addition of new clips the main cut was approved, after rejection capcut mobile was used to edit.
the apps i used:

The first draft:

As mentioned above changes were done in order to improve the aesthetics of the short film.
the editing done on clipchamp is as follow:

the scene shown in the picture above is the starting sequence of the short film, as you can see transition of cross fade was used along with a door opening sound effect, to make the look more realistic and the sound more diegetic.

later to switch between scenes fade through black was use along with a door closing sound effect, hence from here the background music started. In this scene, we also get a closeup on the fingers as he taps them continuously, to make it more appealing.with a cross blur transition as we cut to the extreme closeup shot of the eyes, with a pan movement across.

the background music continued with a cross fade transition between scenes,in this part a the man tries to pull the knife sound effect was used to make it more realistic, same goes with the other scene as we transit with a cross fade as he stabs the picture to make it more natural a stabbing sound effect was used.and ending it with a fade through the black as we move forward.

After stabbing the knife we used a fade through the black transition, to transit to the closeup shot of the knife in his hand, along with a walking sound effect as he walks towards the tied man, a stabbing sound effect is used to make it digetic and lastly again using the same transition we see the man has swapped place the other man comes to cut his throat, a the title sequenced is revealed along with the end credits.

All these clips shown above  that were compiled and edited, got rejected specifically to improve it our sir advised us some things, the main reason was that the compiled video was short, secondly sir wanted some more scenes, he also didn't liked the end credits, along with the background music which was some sound from squid game

So the new edited version had all the clips shown above, but with the removal of some sounds, the background music and the end credits, the re edit was done on capcut. with a new background sound which was the main theme of the jaws along with some new sound effects the changes to edit are shown below:

This is the start of the new editing phase, with new clips, as you can see in this image the audio has been changed to a new audio, which is the main theme of the movies jaws. As you can see I have split the audio in two as the same chunk of sound used at the start is copy pasted forward with whole song (the sound used was not completed used only parts of it). later text were add to introduce the cast and crew, which used the font called "MODERN" and animations were add to show the appearance and exit of text. the animation for in is fade in which had a time of 0.8 seconds, whereas the animation for out is dilute and the timings for it the same as the in animation of 0.8 seconds. In addition to this the first voice over which was recorded using the app had a volume of 239 as visible in the image.

As we move forward text was added to reveal the title of the movie, the font used for this text is called "Caslon" and a animation called zoom out 2 was used for this effect and the timings for the animation to work was 1.7 seconds as seen in the image.

Along with audios like voice overs and and sound effects were used at this specific point like a door opening sound effect. later key frames were added to the audio to make the volume decrease, to make other sounds like the walking on concrete sound or the door closing sound pop up and more diegetic. The audio had volume of  12 and was decreased to 3.

As the scene transits, I have again done some tempering with audio by slowly increasing it by using the same method as before by adding key frames now the volume was increased from 3 to 9 in order to enhance the intensity of the scene.

Along with this part of the short film had nothing much just the finger tapping sound effect and a voice over with a volume of 234.lastly a knife sliding sound effect is used. all the sound got recognition due to the sound tempering.

As we continue with the scene a stabbing sound effect is used, to make the background sound effects like the walking on the concrete sound effect to pop up and to add depth to his walking. we changed the sound setting using key frames as shown below

The volume for the voice overs were kept a range of 234 at that scene and along with that key frames were again added to temper with the volume, now the volume was decreased from 9 to 2.

As the scene comes to its end when the stabbing scene approaches, many sound effects were used as this specific scene had quite importance for the film. sound effects used are for example a stabbing sound, a heavy breathing sound, heart beat sound, a throat cut sound and lastly a tinnitus sound effect along with voice overs and a door opening sound. All these sounds were added in a sequence one by one. the volumes of the sounds ranged between 100 and 310.

Lastly text was added for the explanation of the story. the font for this text was "MODERN" and key frames were added at beginning and the ending of the text to create a moving effect. this was done by moving the text at the bottom of the video and added a key frame then at the end the text was placed at the top and key frame was added to make this possible.
(As such no color grading or color composition was done in this short film.)

Audios used:

There were a diverse range of audios used in this short films, the audio were mixed with the background score along with the voice overs. some of the sounds used were from the editing software stock whereas other were taken from youtube which links are displayed down below:

Production

Color Palette:

Filming:

The filming began on 9th November, at Center for Applied Molecular Biology(CAMB) majority scenes were shot in this location. the establishing shots of the trees were shot in Kashmir, Arrang Kel and later the house scenes were shot in kasoor at my friends house. That much change in the location was done as these scenes were added later in post production as our sir advised us to add these scene to enhance the aesthetics of the video. The filming at the CAMB was wrapped up within 2 days mainly the murder sequence or dream/looped sequence was shot there. Most of the scenes that carried the dark theme of the story gave the film's story line a intense and haunting vibe. During filming improvisation were done as due to our change in location at the very last moment we had to scrap off things.

Behind The Scenes:

Acting:
After some rounds of auditions in our college campus, we ended upon the decision to take this job in our own hands. As acting is also one of the most crucial part for any film. scenes of me as the main lead were shoot first like the entering in the storage area, along with the stabbing scene on the picture. later we shoot the murder sequence with my co star played by Umar Ahsan who did a brilliant job. he was first introduced as being tied to the chair. The expressions and the emotions portrayed in every scene was done accordingly like sign of grief and anger on my face during closeups or the unconscious scenes of me and Umar added life.

Directing:
Each and every elements, scenes carry a meaning in its own whether its the door knob twisting scene or the intense establishing shots of the ware house, the darker theme and usage of low light, created by a sunset lamp faced towards the wall were the evidence board was created, talking about the evidence board it had images of different people along with there news of abduction to show the attention to detail, the dressing of our main character a all black formal dressing showing his maturity and dedication, directing was fun as during shoots we landed upon a decision to improvise the story a little bit as during shooting we released something was not right and mentioned before are last moment change in location caused  the decision to have changes, the changes specifically were the removal of the the tv watching and the bedroom sequence, and improvised it to match the loop of the with the door knob to door knob sequence.

Behind The Scenes:

Cinematography:
Each and every raw clip from our shoot:

Camera work is the most important part, but our crew member and friend musa alvie carried it with perfection,to film the opening brief we used an Iphone 11, which was kept on the settings of 4k 30 fps.
We took a lot of shots but each with different angles to have variety and diverseness in the shots, whether it was the establishing shots of the ware house or the tries or closeup of props to give them depth. The film starts with a establishing shot and continues towards a closeup shot on the door knob and as he twists it we cut to scene as he enters, again the close up on the fingers and extreme closeup on my eyes, then with a wide shot we showed the photo stabbing scene and cutting it to a closeup as the knife stays there with blood drips from the picture, moving in the story we get a scene of a knife in my hand along with a man tied to the rope in the background of the picture signifying the mans end. then we cut to a mid shot of me waking up and getting my throat cut, which continues to a black out but the next scene is revealed to be the same as the door knob sequence before, hence creating a loop.

Equipment/Props used:

Lighting :

Lighting being the most important part for any video as the your video quality depends on it, we got equipment like ring light and sunset lamp. the sunset lamp was used to add warmth into some specific scenes in the video and same goes with the ring light was used as filler light were the light was bit low we used it there to enhance the scene making visible for the viewer.

Sound Recording:

Voice overs were added in the the opening brief later on in the post production, as our sir advised us to add them as the story wasn't connecting with the audience. Which were recorded using a microphone and were done by me. Here is the list of the voice overs.
